Obagi Medical Products Introduces CLENZIderm M.D. Acne Therapeutic System for Normal to Dry Skin

Posted on: Monday, 2 July 2007, 09:22 CDT

Obagi Medical Products, Inc. (Nasdaq:OMPI), a leader in topical aesthetic and therapeutic skin health systems, announced today the introduction of the newest addition to its clinically proven line of topical products to treat acne -- CLENZIderm M.D.™ Acne Therapeutic System for Normal to Dry Skin. This simple three-step system, based on Obagi's patent-pending, solubilized benzoyl peroxide, penetrates deep and clears acne fast, while minimizing dryness and maximizing patient comfort.

Clinical studies show that when used just once per day, this therapeutic system reduces the inflammatory lesions by 50% and delivers a 29% reduction in non-inflammatory lesions within two weeks. The system's liquefied benzoyl peroxide is 1/10,000 the average size of other benzoyl peroxide products on the market. CLENZIderm M.D.'s SoluZyl Technology™ enables the powerful antimicrobial benzoyl peroxide to quickly penetrate the pores and begin reducing acne bacteria below the skin's surface to clear acne faster.

When directed by a physician, the system may also be used with other topical acne treatments to alleviate the dry skin irritation those products cause. Clinical studies show that there was no dryness of the skin after three weeks of using the system, and 91% of patients reported a rating of "Very Comfortable" when describing the comfort level of their treated skin after three weeks of use. Since the CLENZIderm system contains no antibiotics, it offers a further benefit to physicians and patients who are concerned about antibiotic resistance.

"We are pleased to introduce another clinically-backed acne therapy system that gives acne patients compelling results and greater patient comfort," said Steve Carlson, Obagi Medical Products' President and CEO. "Now with systems designed for oily to dry skin types, Obagi offers a prescription-strength acne therapeutic system that is right for all acne patients. We think this new system will be readily embraced by physicians as many of their patients suffer from excessively dry and irritated skin when undergoing acne treatment."

The CLENZIderm M.D. Acne Therapeutic System for Normal to Dry Skin consists of three products, a Daily Care Cream Cleanser, a Therapeutic Lotion and a Therapeutic Moisturizer. The Therapeutic Lotion delivers powerful acne-fighting ingredients while the Therapeutic Moisturizer delivers protection, hydration and moisture with 20% glycerin and 1% dimethicone.

Along with the already popular Obagi CLENZIderm M.D. System for Normal to Oily Skin that was introduced last February, this new Normal to Dry Skin System will be available in dermatologist, plastic surgeon, and other select offices nationwide at the beginning of August 2007.
