IPC - The Hospitalist Company to Provide Hospitalist Services at Memorial Health System of East Texas

Posted on: Monday, 2 July 2007, 12:17 CDT

IPC -- The Hospitalist Company announced today the launch of a new hospitalist program at Memorial Health System of East Texas in Lufkin, Texas, an acute care facility serving nearly 80,000 people. Initially, the hospitalists will care for unassigned emergency room patients, as well as patients who are transferred to Lufkin Medical Center from its sibling hospitals in Livingston and San Augustine, Texas.

Memorial Health System selected IPC because of its reputation as a high-quality hospitalist company and the efficient, high level of care delivered by its hospitalist physicians at the Texas Medical Center in Houston.

"After deciding that a hospitalist program would help us better serve our patient population here at Memorial, we approached IPC to develop a hospitalist program because we have seen the impressive results of their efforts," said Bryant H. Krenek, Jr., president and chief executive officer of Memorial Health System. "Additionally, with IPC, we will have local management as a single point of contact to ensure responsiveness to the needs of our medical staff and patients as the program expands."

"We're excited to have the opportunity to bring the IPC model to this prestigious facility and provide dedicated physicians backed by sophisticated support systems to enhance inpatient care," said Fred Grates, executive director of IPC-Houston, which serves several hospitals and long-term acute care facilities in the Houston area. "The practice at Memorial now has one full-time and one part-time hospitalist and our goal is to have three to five hospitalists to accommodate all private practitioners in the community who would like to have IPC physicians care for their hospitalized patients."
