Indian firm Ranbaxy said Tuesday it has been granted U.S. approval to market a generic version of Pfizer’s blood pressure drug Norvasc.
The company said the Food and Drug Administration approved amlodipine besylate tablets in 2.5-mg, 5-mg and 10-mg strengths. Ranbaxy said it would launch the new product in August.
Ranbaxy estimated annual sales of Norvasc at $2.79 billion, quoting data from IMS.
Aside form treating hypertension, Norvasc is also indicated for the symptomatic treatment of chronic stable angina and confirmed or suspected vasospastic angina.
