Tripoli, 25 July: The families of the Libyan children who were infected with the AIDS virus have condemned the amnesty granted by Bulgarian President Georgi Purvanov to the Bulgarians who had been condemned in the case of injecting these children with the AIDS virus.

In a statement issued on Wednesday [25 July] the families of the victimized children pleaded with the association caring for these children, with the international community and with the EU – if it wishes to protect its image – to review the issue of Bulgaria, as a state which does not respect criminal laws and international conventions, remaining a member of the union.

The families said that at a time when they appreciated the efforts made by all parties to reach a fair settlement, they regret Bulgaria’s abuse of these efforts in this absurd manner which is also an insult to the whole Western civilization, its respect for law and even for the teachings of Christianity itself.

The families of the Libyan children who were infected with the AIDS virus officially urged the Interpol to arrest the condemned Bulgarians in order to serve their remaining prison sentences according to law. The families also called for an immediate severing of relations with Bulgaria, to the expulsion of Bulgarian nationals in Libya and to the ending of dealing with Bulgarian companies.
