July 27, 2007
The attacks were launched last night in the Gereshk district of Helmand province during clashes involving militants, NATO forces and Afghan soldiers.
The local district chief said 50 Taliban fighters and 28 civilians were killed by NATO warplanes, including women and children.
However, a local MP said more than 40 civilians were killed.
The incident is the latest in which NATO air strikes have killed large numbers of civilians during clashes with the Taliban.
