Flooding Kills 178 in India and Bangladesh ; World in Brief

HEAVY monsoon rains and floods have killed at least 178 people and displaced another 19 million across Bangladesh and the northern Indian states of Assam, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, officials said today. Rains have caused a dozen swollen rivers to inundate surrounding regions.
Soldiers today began to evacuate people from 500 villages under water in Uttar Pradesh. Some 14 million people in India and 5 million in Bangladesh have been displaced or marooned. At least 132 people have died in India and 46 more in Bangladesh..
