U.S., Canada, Mexico Leaders Talk Turkey

U.S. President George Bush landed in Ottawa Monday to talk border security with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Mexican President Felipe Calderon.

The summit at Montebello, Quebec, a small resort town near Ottawa, was expected to deal with border security and free trade, CBC News reported.

The Voice of America said Harper will bring up his country’s claim to part of the Arctic Ocean also claimed by the United States, Russia, Norway and Denmark.

Bush and Harper also are expected to discuss the war in Afghanistan, the VOA said.

Earlier aboard Air Force One, a White House spokesman said the U.S. Agency for International Development had sent personnel to Mexico to assess potential needs in advance of Hurricane Dean.

White House spokesman Gordon Johnroe said Bush has been briefed on the latest with Hurricane Dean, which was growing into a monster storm on a collision course with Mexico’s Yucatan.

The U.S. ambassador to Jamaica has also taken steps to free up $100,000 for storm recovery there, he said
