14 die in old age home blaze in S. Africa

JOHANNESBURG, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) — At least 14 people died in a blaze which swept through an old age home in Nkandla, northern KwaZulu-Natal province, South Africa on Tuesday night.

Superintendent Jay Naicker said the cause of the fire, in whichsix people were also injured, was unknown. It was still burning at8 p.m., according to a report by South African Press Association.

The KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Medical Rescue Service said the injured were being treated for smoke inhalation at the Nkandla Hospital.

It was not known how many people were in the old age home when the blaze started.
