Israeli troops who swept into Gaza Tuesday were met with gunfire, mortar fire and rocket-propelled grenades by guerrilla fighters.

Medical sources told KUNA three Palestinians died and three were wounded, one critically, in an airstrike when special Israeli troops advanced into Beit Hanoun.

Military officials said about 30 tanks and army bulldozers moved into Gaza and destroyed a gas station suspected as being a terror base, IsraelNewsNetwork.com reported. Israeli soldiers took rooftop sniper positions as others conducted door-to-door searches, INN said. More than 20 terror suspects were arrested in the sweep.

Fighting also occurred near the fringes of Rafah and Israeli bulldozers tore up cultivated fields in the Palestinian region, KUNA said.

Four Israeli soldiers were treated for smoke inhalation when a rocket-propelled grenade struck their tank, the military said.
