Excerpt from report by Afghan independent Tolo TV, on 27 December

Please pay attention to a report we received a few minutes ago:

Benazir Bhutto, leader of the Pakistan People’s Party and the former prime minister of Pakistan, was killed in a suicide attack a few hours ago.

The suicide attack occurred in Rawalpindi this afternoon, killing 15 and wounding more than 30 others.

[Tolo correspondent, speaking in Dari superimposed over a foreign English-language dispatch] This attack occurred in Rawalpindi when Benazir Bhutto was addressing a rally of her supporters as part of her election campaign.

A Pakistani police official and a member of the Pakistan People’s Party said [earlier] that Benazir Bhutto was wounded in the attack. [Passage omitted]

This is the second suicide attack targeting Benazir Bhutto after her return to Pakistan.

The attack on Benazir Bhutto took place after Benazir Bhutto told a news conference a few hours ago that she would root out terrorism and extremism in Pakistan if she won the parliamentary elections in her country.

[In a later report in the same bulletin, Tolo TV repeated that "the suicide attack on Benazir Bhutto that led to her death this afternoon comes hours after she had said that she would root out terrorism and extremism in Pakistan if she won the parliamentary elections in her country".]
