Kibaki Wins Kenya's Presidential Election

Incumbent President Kibaki was declared winner of Kenya's presidential election Sunday, despite challenger Raila Odinga's claims of victory.
The Electoral Commission officially declared Kibaki winner three days after the poll plagued by claims of corruption and irregularities, the BBC reported.
Odinga earlier urged Kibaki to concede defeat and charged widespread corruption at polling places throughout Kenya, the Nairobi Daily Nation reported Sunday.
The people know that they voted to eject the incumbent and put in a place a president and a government they have faith in, Odinga told reporters Sunday. That is why they have elected me president.
The opposition leader said Kenyans were deeply disturbed and angered by allegations of vote rigging, the independent newspaper said. He called for a public recount of the ballots.
Electoral Commission Chairman Samuel Kivuitu has also requested an audit of the ballots, the newspaper said.
The delay in official confirmation sparked widespread chaos resulting in several casualties throughout the nation, the BBC said.
