[Unattributed report: Selebi Steps Down as National Police Commissioner]
702 Eyewitness News has learnt that National Police Commissioner Jackie Selebi is stepping down pending the outcome of the charges against him.
The National Prosecuting Authority yesterday revealed it had enough evidence to charge Selebi.
702 Eyewitness News can also confirm that Selebi informed President Thabo Mbeki of his decision last night.
He also spoke to several people in his office telling them he would be returning to work. It is believed Selebi will not be resigning and will only stand down temporarily until the trial against him is over.
The president has called a press conference at the Union Buildings at 3 o’ clock today to discuss the Selebi matter.
