Authorities in Mexico recovered six bodies following a shootout in the border town of Tijuana between police and local gang members.
Police said they were still determining whether all the bodies were those of gang members or hostages taken before the firefight, El Universal reported Friday online.
Tijuana and other Mexican border towns have been the scene of increasing drug-related violence in recent years.
Mexican President Felipe Calderon recently sent 3,000 Mexican troops to Tijuana to bolster the city's security.
