Vice-President Calls for Return of Iran’s File to IAEA

Mahabad, West Azarbayjan Province, 24 February: First Vice- President Parviz Davudi here on Sunday [24 February] called for return of Iran’s file to the International Atomic Energy Agency from the Security Council.
Talking to reporters in this north-western city, he said there is no reason for keeping Iranian file at the UN Security Council after Iran got clean health bill from the UN nuclear agency.
He said the agency reached the conclusion that there was no diversion in Iran’s nuclear programme.
“Therefore there is no reason for Iran’s file to remain at the UN Security Council,” he said.
IAEA Director-General Mohammad al-Baradi’i in his 11-page report verified non-diversion of Iran’s national nuclear programme reiterating that the agency had made good progress in its investigation into Iran’s nuclear drive.
In his report to the IAEA’s Board of Governors, al-Baradi’i also said that during the last few months Iran had provided the UN nuclear watchdog with “visits to many places, which enable us to have a clearer picture of Iran’s programme.”
Criticizing the West’s attitude towards Iran’s nuclear programme, Davudi said the Western governments, particularly the US and Israel, would probably continue with their baseless accusations against the Iranian nation.
By making hue and cry, the Bush administration tries to make up for its failures in the presidential campaign, he added.
Al-Baradi’i has called on Iran to accept the Additional Protocol to Non-Proliferation Treaty to enable the agency to monitor IAEA Safeguards in future.
Iran said that it will accept the Additional Protocol upon return of Iranian file from the Security Council to the Vienna-based United Nations specialized agency.
