Chopin’s Heart to Rest in Peace
World News IN BRIEF
*WARSAW Poland's Culture Ministry has rejected a request by scientists to run DNA tests on the heart of the composer Frederic Chopin in an attempt to solve a mystery surrounding his death, in 1849 at the age of 39. The scientists, led by the geneticist Michal Witt, believe Chopin died from cystic fibrosis, and not tuberculosis. The heart, preserved in alcohol, is kept in a jar sealed within a pillar at Warsaw's Holy Cross Church.
