Moscow Welcomes Diplomatic Relations Between Lebanon, Syria

MOSCOW. Aug 14 (Interfax) - The establishment of diplomatic relations between Lebanon and Syria will promote regional stability, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

"Russia welcomes this move by two sovereign states. This is an important step toward normalizing Syrian-Lebanese relations and adapting them to new realities. We hope for further progress in this direction," the statement says.

"The resumption of neighborly and equal ties and versatile cooperation between Syria and Lebanon meets the interests of both countries connected by historical, cultural and other bonds and contributes to the improvement of inter-Arab relations and the strengthening of regional stability," the ministry said.
