Dalai Lama Joins Fast From Hospital Bed
The Dalai Lama, hospitalized in India after suffering from stomach pains, joined in a 12-hour fast Saturday with other Tibetan Buddhist leaders.
Doctors at the Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai gave the Dalai Lama the go-ahead to participate, Press Trust of India reported. He was brought to the hospital by air several days ago for tests.
In Dharamsala, the Dalai Lama’s headquarters since his expulsion from Tibet, Samdhong Rinpoche, prime minister of the government in exile, addressed thousands of Tibetans gathered for the fast.
“The universal prayer session and the symbolic fasting is aimed to achieve world peace and happiness for all sentient beings in the world in general, and specifically for people of China and Tibet,” Rinpoche said.
