Intelligence Agency Probed
July 1, 2005
Media reports in Italy say police are investigating a parallel intelligence agency created to fight Islamic militant groups.
Anti-terror squads have carried out raids in nine Italian regions, resulting in two arrests and the investigation of many more employed by regular law-enforcement bodies, the Italian news agency ANSA reported.
The police say they believe the purpose of the intelligence agency was to profit from national and international anti-terror funds.
