Iraqi Police Arrest Former Army Commander

The Iraqi police arrested a former officer in the Iraqi army. This officer was commander of the eighth division in the [former Iraqi army]. Iraqi sources said that an Iraqi police force, backed by the US forces, arrested Maj-Gen Arif Nayif al-Ubaydi, commander of the eighth division in the former Iraqi army in the village of Al- Hawd near the town of Al-Huwayjah.
The sources added that a police officer and two others accused of commanding and carrying out attacks on the US forces, the oil pipelines and oil wells west of Kirkuk, were also arrested.
