One World ; 225,000 March on Streets of Edinburgh

THE world came together yesterday as billions around the globe demanded G8 leaders end poverty. In Edinburgh, 225,000 people marched to Make Poverty History while the spectacular Live8 concert in London led star-studded shows around the world.

The organisers of Live8 Bob Geldof and Bono demanded action from the G8 leaders arriving in Scotland for the summit this week.

In an open letter they said: ‘For God’s sake, take this seriously. Don’t behave normally. Don’t look for compromises. Be great.’

In Edinburgh, Nelson Mandela sent a special message to Scotland’s biggest ever rally calling for action to help the people of Africa.

He said: ‘It’s time to set them free. ‘Poverty is handmade and can be overcome by the G8 leaders. Do not hesitate – recognise the world is hungry for action not words
