1st Ld: Strong earthquake rocks Indonesia's Sumatra Island
JAKARTA, July 5 (Xinhua) -- A strong earthquake measuring six on the Ritcher Scale jolted Indonesia's Sumatra Island on Tuesday morning, but caused no tsunami, Indonesia's Meteorology and Geophysic Agency reported.
Andi Amran, an official of the agency told Xinhua by telephone that no casualty had been reported yet.
He said that the quake happened at 08:52 local time with its epicenter 30 kilometers deep in the sea and 190 kilometers west of coastal town of Sibolga, North Sumatra Province.
The epicenter was at 2 north latitude and 97.1 east longitude, said Amran.
The quake could also be felt in nearby island of Nias, he added.
"According to the United States' Pacific Warning Centerthere there is no possibility of tsunami," he added.
