Police shot and killed a suspected suicide bomber outside a London subway station Friday as he tried to board a train.
Witnesses said an Asian man in a baseball cap and padded coat jumped the barrier at Stockwell station in South London and ran down escalators to the platform.
As police in flak jackets screamed at other passengers on the Northern Line train to get down the suspect was pushed to the floor by officers, one witness told BBC, and they unloaded five shots into him.
Police evacuated the train and cordoned off the area. Teams of forensic officers were working inside the station as police helicopters hovered overhead. Services on the Victoria and Norhern Lines were suspended. Bridges across the Thames also were closed.
A BBC reporter said the large police presence appeared to be focused on an internet caf&169; as the search went on for possible confederates of the slain man.
Police have been ordered to shoot-to-kill suspected suicide bombers.
