Gunmen kill 2 Israelis on Gaza border-rescue service
GAZA (Reuters) – Palestinian militants shot and killed two
Israelis near a Gaza border crossing on Sunday, Israeli rescue
services said, in the latest flare-up of violence in recent
weeks despite a cease-fire declared in February.
The army had no immediate comment and there was no
immediate claim of responsibility for the shooting.
Gunmen infiltrated from Gaza and fired at an Israeli
vehicle at the Kissufim border crossing, killing one Israeli
and wounding three others, Israel’s Zaka rescue service said.
The soldiers then returned fire, a military source added.
The incident coincided with a visit by Secretary of State
Condoleezza Rice, who met Israeli and Palestinian leaders to
urge them to coordinate more closely on Israel’s planned
pullout from the Gaza Strip next month.
