Six people were killed and 15 others wounded in two separate suicide car bombings in central Baghdad Monday, police said.
The first attack in the early morning hours targeted a police checkpoint near al-Sadeer Hotel, which overlooks Baghdad's central al-Firdous Square, killing four people.
A cloud of black smoke billowed over the scene of the blast as rescue teams rushed to the area to evacuate the casualties, witnesses said.
The second blast occurred two hours later near Harithiya Bridge, killing two people.
The twin blasts came hours after a massive suicide attack targeted Rachad Police Station in Baghdad late Sunday night, killing 40 people and injuring dozens.
A U.S. Army statement said a truck rigged with 220 kilograms of explosives was used in the attack.
