British police Friday arrested two men suspected of attempting to detonate bombs on the London transport system July 21, officials said.
Police sources told the BBC they believed a man arrested during an armed operation in West London Friday was the suspected Oval underground bomber, who has not been named. A second man arrested in Hackney, east London, is believed to be suspected Hackney bus bomber Muktar Said Ibrahim. At least one other suspected bomber is still at large.
Separately, Liverpool Street Station was evacuated after officers arrested two women, a witness told the BBC. The area around the station was cordoned off. Other operations are understood to be under way elsewhere in London.
Police raided two properties in the Ladbroke Grove area and cordoned off parts of Notting Hill around 11:30 a.m. Witnesses reported explosions or a series of gunshots, and seeing officers wearing gas masks and carrying machine guns.
The BBC reported officers may have used explosives to enter the property, and tear gas may have been introduced into the building to subdue those inside.
However, such reports have not been confirmed by Scotland Yard.
