Suicide bomb kills six in attack on Baghdad police

August 10, 2005

BAGHDAD (Reuters) – A suicide bomber killed six people and
wounded 14 when he drove a car at a police patrol in the
Ghazaliya district of western Baghdad on Wednesday, police and
Interior Ministry sources said.

Two of the dead and two of the wounded were policemen and
the remaining casualties were civilians, they added.

On Tuesday, rebels shot dead 10 policemen in five attacks
across the capital.

Iraq’s U.S.-backed government is hoping that a political
process which began with elections in January will defuse the
insurgency — a loose alliance of foreign Muslim militants and
Saddam Hussein loyalists — that shows no signs of weakening.
