Five Iraqi Soldiers Killed North of Baghdad

Armed men attacked an Iraqi Army and Police checkpoint to the north of Baghdad yesterday. Police sources said that the attack, which took place near Bayji city, 200 km north of Baghdad, resulted in killing five soldiers and injuring three others.
The sources added that an armed group riding in two cars opened fire on a checkpoint affiliated with the third brigade of the first regiment of the Iraqi army, killing five soldiers and wounding three soldiers.
The sources indicated that the perpetrators fled the scene after the operation, and that the Iraqi Army troops could not arrest them. It is noteworthy that four US soldiers were killed and six others were injured in an attack on their patrol near Bayji the day before yesterday [9 August].
