Israeli pull out from Gaza

Egypt's Al-Ahram [pro-govt, largest circulation]: www.ahram.org.eg "With the beginning of the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza Strip which will take place after a few days, we enter a new phase in the history of Palestinian-Israeli conflict. What is needed, is for both sides to make efforts to bring more progress towards achieving just and lasting peace between the two sides." (14) (Editorial - "Withdrawal from Gaza the beginning and not the end")

Sudan

Sudan's Khartoum Monitor [indep]: Lt-Gen Salva Kiir Mayardit, has now started to put the southern house in order after years of destructive and unjustifiable wars and among the people of southern Sudan. The game is over, Mayardit promised to keep his door open to all southern rivals in a quest to harmonize all loggerheads of the south. This is a positive move from the SPLM top leadership, Mayardit has proved that he is really a devotee to the south." (14) (Editorial - "United we stand, divided we fall")

Iraq

Libya's Al-Jamahiriyah [published by the revolutionary c'ttees] www.aljamahiria.com "Before the first foreign soldier set a foot on Iraqi soil, we held our breath in fear of Iraq's division. We were not afraid for the Iraqi date trees because they would withstand a strong storm. We are not afraid for the Tigress river because it would still flow after huge fires. We were also not afraid for the skies of Iraq because it would regain its blueness however smoky the air is...the enemies of Iraq will wish for nothing but the division of the sects, land and nation of Iraq... It means Iraqis opening fire against one another." (14) (Editorial - "So that Iraq does not die through a federal attack")

Syria, Iraq

Syria's Tishrin [govt-owned]: www.teshreen.com "Iraq is going through the most dangerous phase in history because of what the occupation has caused. Yet, some officials there find it opportune to accuse others [Syria] for what is taking place in Iraq and to absolve the occupation from all it has done and still doing... Syria supports Iraq and its people at any circumstance and wants Iraq to live in complete security and stability and to get rid of the occupation...This is Syria's stance and political will towards brotherly Iraq." (14) (Commentary by Iz-al-Din al-Darwish - "Syria's will: Iraq's security and stability")
