Text of report by Israel radio on 5 September
Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom says that [Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas] Abu-Mazin's statements according to which the Palestinians have additional territorial claims in the Gaza Strip are both absurd and extreme
. Leaving the Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee, Minister Shalom also commented on the crisis within the Likud. Shalom said he would present his compromise proposal to the Central Committee even if [Prime Minister Ariel] Sharon and [Binyamin] Netanyahu refuse to hold the primaries in February 2006. Minister Shalom called on the two ministers to climb down from the roof, as he put it, and to realize that two months difference in the date of the primaries would not lead to Likud's disintegration. This was reported by our correspondent Beni Teitelbaum.Source: BBC Monitoring Middle East
