Palestinian security sources have described the meeting last night between the Palestinian and Israeli sides at the Bayt Hanun (Erez) crossing, which lasted until after midnight, as extremely positive. They said all important issues pertaining to the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip were discussed.

The commander of the National Security Forces in the Gaza Strip, Maj-Gen Sulayman Hillis, headed the meeting for the Palestinian side while the commander of the occupation army in the Gaza Strip, Brig- Gen Aviv Kokhavi, headed it for the Israeli side. A number of field commanders from both sides also attended. Hillis said the participants discussed various aspects of the coordination of the anticipated Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.

Maj-Gen Hillis, Southern Region Commander Col Jamal Kayid and a number of Palestinian Military Liaison officers together with Brig- Gen Kokhavi and some Israeli officers held an inspection tour of all the Qatif Bloc settlements west of Khan Yunis. The military commanders were briefed about the access roads to the settlements and checked the installations that will be transferred to Palestinian security control following the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza settlements. The two sides also discussed numerous security issues.

Maj-Gen Hillis and Northern Region Commander Sayyid Sha'ban also toured the northern Gaza settlements in order to become acquainted with all the installations and positions within them.
