PLO Chief Negotiator Dr Sa'ib Urayqat has urged the US administration to announce a position rejecting the statements made by Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon in which he said that he withdrew from Gaza to strengthen his grip on the West Bank. During his meeting with US Consul General Jacob Walles, Urayqat stressed the need for the Quartet committee [with EU, Russian, UN and US representatives] and the United States to reaffirm that the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including Jerusalem, are a single geographical entity to frustrate the Israeli settlements plans, the last of which was in Al-Ayzariyah.
For his part, the US consul general reiterated his country's determination to work on making the unilateral withdrawal a true opportunity for launching the peace process.
