Gaza: Sami Abu-Zuhri, Hamas Movement spokesman in the Gaza Strip, on Saturday [17 September] denounced Israeli premier Ariel Sharon's statement indicating his intention to obstruct the Palestinian legislative elections if Hamas participates.
He said that Sharon was trying to create strife among the Palestinian people, adding that the elections were an internal affair that Israel had nothing to do with.
The Hamas spokesman accused Israel and the US of making strenuous efforts to prevent Hamas's participation in the elections. Abu- Zuhri underlined that Hamas was concerned with the success of the elections and urged the PNA [Palestinian National Authority] to remain committed to the date of elections and to ensure their honesty and transparency.
On Friday, thousands of Palestinians offered the Friday prayers on liberated lands in the Gaza Strip at the invitation of Hamas. Shaykh Sa'id Siyam delivered the Khutba (sermon) affirming his movement's intention to continue resistance until the final liberation of all occupied Palestinian territories.
