Ukrainian, Iranian Foreign Ministers Discuss Cooperation

Kiev, 19 September: Acting Ukrainian Foreign Minister Borys Tarasyuk has held talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Manuchehr Mottaki on priority steps aimed at intensifying cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector.
During the meeting in New York as part of the 60th session of the UN General Assembly, the two countries said that they were ready for an active dialogue and further expansion of cooperation in all areas. In this context the ministers discussed the possibility of exchanging visits in the near future, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry press secretary Vasyl Filipchuk said on Monday [19 September].
Mottaki confirmed Iran's willingness to increase cooperation in the economic sphere in both new and existing projects, in particular, in the aviation, shipbuilding, machine-building, mining and metallurgical industries.
The two sides also agreed that under the leadership of the foreign ministries experts from industrial ministries in each country would analyse their full range of bilateral ties with a view to determining the most promising joint projects.
During discussions on pressing international issues Mottaki set out Iran's position regarding talks with EU mediators over its nuclear programme.
