President Mahmud Abbas announced that he will visit the United States soon, and called on Washington to intervene in order to force Israel to stop its aggression against our people.

The president made this statement to reporters following his meeting with Arab League Secretary-General Amr Musa in Cairo.

President Mahmud Abbas held an important meeting with Egyptian President Husni Mubarak this morning in Cairo.

Head of the PLO Negotiations Affairs Department Dr Sa'ib Urayqat, who attended the meeting, said they discussed the need to resume final status negotiations, stop settlement activity and the construction of the annexation and expansion wall, and the need for Israel to implement its commitments following the Sharm al-Shaykh Summit, in addition to the provision of mechanisms, timetables and observation teams to guarantee the implementation of the road map.

Speaking to our radio, Urayqat added that the meeting also discussed the current deterioration in the Gaza Strip due to the escalation in Israeli aggression, and the need to establish calm, considering it a Palestinian national interest.

The meeting was also attended on the Palestinian side by Presidency Secretary-General Tayyib Abd-al-Rahim, Presidency Adviser Nabil Abu-Rudaynah, National Security Adviser Maj-Gen Jibril al- Rujub and Palestinian Ambassador to Egypt Zuhdi al-Qidrah.
