Dubai-based news channel Al-Arabiya TV's correspondent in Baghdad Faris al-Mahdawi comments on the security developments in Iraq in a three-minute interview at 0804 gmt on 1 October.
Al-Mahdawi says that the Iraqi forces, accompanied by US forces, imposed a siege on the villages of Sa'dah, Al-Karabilah and Al- Ubaydi in Al-Anbar Governorate, apparently in preparation for a large military campaign there. The correspondent says: "Medical sources in the city said more than 10 people were killed and more than 15 others were wounded in a US air bombing of the area."
Al-Mahdawi says the sound of a huge explosion was heard in Baghdad but no information is available on the nature of the explosion. He adds: "In Al-Miqdadiyah, northeast of Baghdad, unidentified gunmen launched an attack on an Iraqi army vehicle, killing two soldiers and wounding three others."
The correspondent then speaks about the session of the Iraqi National Assembly, which started in Baghdad this morning. He cites statements by two MPs who spoke about the possibility of amending the draft constitution to reach a national consensus.
