Suicide bomber hits Westerners’ car in Afghan south

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (Reuters) - A suicide bomber rammed a
car into a vehicle carrying Western nationals in Afghanistan's
restive southern province of Kandahar on Sunday, Afghan
officials and witnesses said.

At least two Afghan passersby were hurt in the blast that
happened on a main road about a kilometer from a U.S. military
base, not far from the city center, they said.

A local government official confirmed the blast but said he
did not know if any foreigners were hurt.

Kandahar is a base for foreign troops pursuing Taliban and
allied Islamic militants. Foreign aid workers are also based in
the city.
