Japan Sends Quake Emergency Relief

Japan is sending material and manpower to Pakistan, which was hit by a major earthquake Saturday.
The Japanese government, whose land mass is constantly threatened by major quakes, will provide more than $219,000 worth of emergency supplies, including 2,000 blankets, 500 sleeping bags, plastic containers, water purifiers and generators.
A medical team left Tokyo for Pakistan Monday to support emergency medical care in areas around Kashmir hit by the magnitude-7.6 quake.
In addition, an emergency rescue team of 49 personnel from the National Policy Agency, Foreign Ministry and other agencies left for Islamabad Sunday.
Meanwhile, relatives of two Japanese people killed in the earthquake left for Islamabad Sunday. Satoru Narahara, whose two-year assignment with the Japan International Cooperation Agency was about to expire Oct. 19, and his son died in the collapse of a 10-story apartment building in Islamabad. His wife was rescued.
