Peshawar, 10 October: The Taleban have claimed responsibility for the explosion in Kandahar city.
The new Taleban spokesman, Salimollah Mojahed, phoned the Afghan Islamic Press [AIP] office in Peshawar from an undisclosed location and said: "The Taleban carried out today's explosion in Kandahar and it was aimed at killing Commander Aaqil Shah." Mojahed said: "Aaqil Shah was a pro-government commander. He searched a number of people's houses and looted people's belongings by force and he was punished for all this."
He gave details about the explosion to AIP: "First, the Taleban detonated a mine there and then they attacked Aaqil Shah, who is known as Agha Shah, using light weapons. They killed four people including him."
The Taleban spokesman regards Aaqil Shah's father, Malik Khudadad, as an enemy of the Taleban as well and said: "Aaqil Shah's father also took part in battles against the Taleban and has martyred a large number of people."
Finally, Salimollah Mojahed told AIP: "The Taleban will carry out more suicide attacks like this."
It is worth mentioning that a suicide-bomber carried out an attack in Kandahar yesterday and four Britons were injured in the explosion.
