Cairo, 10 October: Egyptian Presidential Spokesman Sulayman Awad said that the three-way summit that was held today in Egypt discussed the general Arab situation, especially the situation in Iraq and developments in the Palestinian territories.
Awad said that the discussions between President Husni Mubarak, Jordan's King Abdallah and Bahrain's King Hamad Bin-Isa Al Khalifah reflected the three leaders' agreement on the need to stand behind the Iraqi people during the current sensitive stage through which they are passing. The talks also discussed the forthcoming referendum on the constitution set for next week and ways to assist the success of the political process set out in Security Council Resolution 1546, a process that provides the necessary atmosphere to end the foreign presence in Iraq and the return of its sovereignty and independence.
Awad said that the three leaders agreed on the need to continue supporting the Palestinian [National] Authority during the current sensitive period, to work towards a thriving Palestinian economy and to make use of the end of the Israeli military presence in Gaza to return to the road map peace plan.
