The Health Ministry has made a comforting announcement. The Ministry has announced that the incubation period for the avian flu virus seen in Banyas has ended and that there is no longer the danger of contagion for either animals or humans.
The Health Ministry General Health Services Department has announced that the incubation period of two to four days for the virus detected in Banyas has ended. Officials from the department recalled that over a week has passed since the first cases were detected in Kiziksa. The officials believe that animals and humans are no longer in danger. The culling of birds in Kiziksa has also been concluded. Some 10,000 birds were culled in the region. No date has yet been set for lifting the quarantine imposed on the region.
Meanwhile, the EU has also conveyed the message that there is no need for panic. Hansjoerg Kretschmer, the European Commission representative in Turkey, said: There is a risk. We should, however, have confidence in the Turkish officials and the EU Scientific Committee.
