Tunisia Paper Slams Saddam Trial
October 19, 2005
An independent Tunisian newspaper described ousted Iraqi President Saddam Hussein’s trial, which opened in Baghdad Wednesday, as an ugly game.
The game has not ended as the imprisoned Iraqi president appears before a court that does not resemble any other court since it has no constitutional relevance and does not follow internal or international laws, Al-Shourouk said in a front page editorial.
The scenario of aggression against Iraq’s legitimacy continues.
Saddam and seven of his closest aides appeared in court on charges stemming from a 1982 massacre in which 148 people died in the Sunni-Shiite town of Dujail, about 50 miles north of Baghdad.
