EU Issues Bird Flu Heads-Up on Chicken

In light of a potential spread of avian flu, the European Union has issued a health advisory to avoid eating under-cooked chicken and raw eggs.
The EU Food Safety Authority, based in Parma, Italy, said current scientific evidence is not sufficient to rule out the possibility that the deadly virus could spread to people through food.
The agency's director of science, Herman Koeter, told the Financial Times the warning is in line with the views of the World Health Organization and other scientific organizations.
Theoretically, it could be possible that, if you eat the raw blood of an infected chicken, the virus is then not totally killed in the stomach, Koeter said.
Tuesday, France imposed orders that farmers keep poultry indoors in 21 regions considered most at risk. Bird flu alerts have sprung up in numerous European countries, where variants of the strain have turned up in domestic fowl and wildlife.
