Bush in Brazil After Poor Trade Talks

November 6, 2005

President Bush is spending Sunday in Brazil after two-day trade talks with hemispheric leaders in Argentina did not give Bush what he wanted.

Bush was pushing for a revival of the Free Trade Area of the Americas negotiations, a pact that would span the continents of North and South America.

But five countries, led by South American powerhouse Brazil, made sure that didn’t happen.

The BBC reports those countries feel their citizens will get a better deal from the World Trade Organization at a meeting next month.

Bush was to meet with Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in Brasilia Sunday to discuss issues, including trade.
