The National Police Headquarters on Thursday [10 November] confirmed that one of the dead bodies found in a house raided by police on Wednesday evening in the East Java town of Malang belongs to Dr Azahari, the man most wanted by the police for terrorist avtivities in Indonesia.

"An assessment has indicated the fingerprint formulation on documents issued by the Malaysian police and Indonesian police`s Detective and Criminal Identification Agency on Azahari`s fingerprints match those of one of the dead bodies," Police spokesman Brig-Gen Sunarko DA said.

He said the body believed to be that of Azahari was relatively intact. Another body, thought to be that of Arman, also a fugitive linked to terrorist activities in Indonesia, had been shattered.

Sunarko said police had obtained documents from the Malaysian police on 10 formulations of Dr Azahari`s fingerprints when he was already grown up.

The National Police Headquarters had also kept Dr Azahari`s fingerprint formulations, which were produced by the police`s Detective and Criminal Identification Agency when the fugitive entered Indonesia in 1998.

"Dr Azahari`s fingerprints was taken by the Ministry of Manpower when he had to meet certain requirements to work in Indonesia," the police spokesman said.
