November 14, 2005
RAMALLAH, West Bank (Reuters) – U.S. Secretary of State
Condoleezza Rice reached a deal on Monday between Israel and
the Palestinians on the passage of goods and people through
Gaza’s border with Egypt, a Palestinian official said.
The compromise, to be announced by Rice in the West Bank
city of Ramallah, was hammered out in her separate talks with
Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Palestinian President
Mahmoud Abbas, the official said. The fate of the Rafah
crossing has been a major sticking point since Israel’s Gaza
pullout.
