Rice extends Mideast visit

November 14, 2005

JERUSALEM (Reuters) – U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza
Rice decided on Monday to extend her visit to the Middle East
to try to broker an Israeli-Palestinian deal over Gaza’s border
crossing to Egypt, her spokesman said.

Rice, who held talks earlier in the day with Israeli and
Palestinian leaders, planned to fly to Jordan for a previously
scheduled trip and then return to Israel to seek agreement on
reopening the Rafah terminal, her spokesman said. The crossing
has been closed since Israel withdrew from the strip in
September.
