A strong earthquake was recorded Saturday 160 miles west of the Indonesian island of Sumatra, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

No tsumani warnings had been issued in the wake of the quake measuring 6.5 on the Richter Scale, the BBC said. There have been no reports of deaths or damage so far.

At least 200,000 people died in 13 countries after an earthquake in the same region sparked a deadly tsunami last December.
