Iran, Afghanistan Sign Political, Economic Agreement

Tehran, 24 November: Iran and Afghanistan signed a political and economic memorandum of understanding (MoU) here Wednesday afternoon [24 November].
Iranian Foreign Minister Manuchehr Mottaki and his Afghan counterpart Abdollah Abdollah were signatories to the document.
The agreement stipulates for holding meetings of the High Commission on border with the aim of controlling their joint border, strengthening bilateral ties and mutual respect and good neighbourly relations.
Mottaki said here Wednesday that Tehran’s policy is based on all- out support for peace, stability and national solidarity in Afghanistan.
In a meeting with his Afghan counterpart Abdollah Abdollah, he said that Tehran welcomes cooperation with Kabul in the campaign against drugs.
He said conclusion of contracts and agreements between Iran and Afghanistan would help solve transit problems and activities of the private sector in both countries.
Abdullah, for his part, voiced Kabul’s readiness for all-out ties and cooperation with Iran.
