Arab League Condemns Israeli "Military Aggression" on Gaza

Posted on: Sunday, 4 December 2005, 12:00 CST

Text of report in English by Egyptian news agency MENA

Cairo, 4 December: The Arab League on Sunday [4 December] denounced the Israeli military aggression on Gaza City.

Assistant Secretary-General for Palestinian and Occupied Arab Lands Affairs Ambassador Muhammad Subayh said that despite the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza Strip, the area was still constantly under Israeli army fire and its defenceless people were still constantly being terrorized.

He said that the raids carried out by Israeli artillery, tanks and aircraft on Gaza was just another scene of the never-stopping Israeli atrocities against Palestinians, warning of the continued Israeli assassinations, demolitions, sieges and brutalities, especially against Palestinian prisoners.

He said that all what the Israelis had been doing seemed to aim at one thing; and that is to undermine the peace march.

The Israeli behaviour shows that the ruling government in Israel has an agenda that is entirely different from that of the peace march and from that of implementing the road map, he argued. It is also a proof that Israel just wants the Palestinians to be kept in one large open-air prison, he added.

Subayh called on the International Quartet and the UN Security Council member states to prevent Israel from continuing its crimes against the Palestinians.

He reiterated the Arab League's support for the Palestinian leadership and the Palestinians in their struggle to achieve their noble goals
