Baghdad Official Wounded in Gun Attack; Car Bomb Kills Two Iraqi Civilians

Deputy Governor of Baghdad Ziyad Ali al-Zawba'i and three of his bodyguards have escaped an assassination attempt in the western Baghdad district of Al-Amil. An Interior Ministry source has said that unknown gunmen opened fire on Al-Zawba'i's convoy in Amil district, running away immediately afterwards. Al-Zawba'i was wounded in the attack. A source at Al-Yawmuk Hospital has said that the deputy governor of Baghdad and three of his bodyguards are now in the Intensive Care Unit.
In another development, two Iraqi civilians were martyred by a car bomb in the Al-Iskan district of central Baghdad. A spokesman for the Interior Ministry said that eight others were wounded, including five policemen, one of them a high-ranking officer. The spokesman said the explosion targeted the convoy of Al-Dawrah Police Director Salam Zuhal, but did not say if the wounded senior officer was Zuhal himself.
